Continuing protests in Baghdad and the cities of southern Iraq, and Al-Khalani Square is one of the most prominent points of tension in the capital.

The scene has seen bloody confrontations between demonstrators and security, where dozens of people have been killed or wounded in recent weeks.

Al-Khulani Square is located in the middle of Al-Khulani and Al-Senk areas (central Baghdad).

The square connects four important streets: the caliphs, the Gilani, the Republic and the Senk.

Demonstrators are keen to take control of al-Khalani Square to reach the al-Senq bridge and important areas, but security forces prevent it, trying to disperse the demonstrators by force, and previously isolated al-Khalani square from Tahrir Square (Baghdad Demonstration Center) with concrete barriers.
