Julien Bayou on RFI 16 August 2019. RFI

This Saturday was the first round of internal elections for the Green Europe Ecology Party. And it is the current spokesman of the party Julien Bayou who saw his motion come largely in mind. His victory should be confirmed in the second round on November 30th. By then, Julien Bayou intends to discuss with those who were also present in order to gather widely. Because unity is exactly what green activists expect. Reportage.

With our special correspondent in Bordeaux, Marine de La Moissonnière

The good score in the European , the polls positive for the municipal and especially, the awareness of the population: the time of the ecology has arrived. The activists are convinced. So to avoid missing this opportunity, we must unite.

" It would really be a mess to show disunity in a moment like that. But hey, it's been 30 years since I joined the Greens, I also know our ability to self-destruct, "said Jean Lissar, regional secretary of EELV Aquitaine.

Jean Lissar is however optimistic, just like Eugène Reinberger, member of EELV. The motions are very close in substance, he explains. And then the Greens learned from their past mistakes.

" When the ego and individual selfishness take precedence over the collective it gives what it gave and I think everyone realized that it had to come out. Now putting egoism in the background does not prevent people from having convictions and wanting to convince. "

And to convince, that of course means to conquer the power. If party leaders are already heading for 2022, the militants, they, focus on municipal like Benoît Petit.

" At the local level, we can do a lot of things. Let's start at the local level and then the national policy will follow. And he hopes for a green president in 2022 " if it's possible ".

Ambitious, environmental activists, but also realistic. They know it: the road is still long.
