“During customs inspection, 698.9 kg of illegally transported amber was found in the trunks of three cars with Ukrainian license plates, and four citizens of Ukraine were detained in these vehicles,” RIA Novosti quoted Skokanov as saying.

According to her, the legal import of amber is allowed in Slovakia, “which should be registered as imported goods and cleared through customs”, however, this requirement was not met by Ukrainians.

It is noted that the citizens of Ukraine were detained, criminal proceedings were instituted against them, they face imprisonment for a term of 4 to 10 years.

Earlier, more than 26 kg of gold was seized from illegal distributors in Moscow, the cost of which is estimated at 100 million rubles.

In March, Nevsky Novosti reported that customs officers seized 2.5 million rubles in smuggled amber on a Kaliningrad-Moscow train.
