Dubai Health Authority (DHA) revealed that it has saved nine patients in government and private hospitals in Dubai and Abu Dhabi after collecting 33 rare blood units during the past two years. The Director of the Dubai Blood Donation Center, Dr. Mai Raouf, confirmed that the UAE is among the top five countries. Blood donations are voluntary, 100% free of charge.

She explained to the Emirates Today that the Authority through the Dubai Blood Donation Center has succeeded in providing 33 rare blood units for nine cases of disease, including three cases in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi (Sheikh Khalifa Hospital and Cleveland Clinic), where 11 units of blood were disposed of blood For these cases, 17 blood units of low varieties were provided to private sector hospitals in the Emirate of Dubai, and five blood units were provided to DHA hospitals.

She stressed that the collection of blood in the UAE is exclusively through voluntary donation, 100%, which has been officially praised by the World Health Organization, and stressed that the country among the top five countries in the world in which the process of donating blood on a voluntary basis, free of charge.

She pointed out that the Dubai Blood Donation Center, through its “My National Blood” campaign since its first launch in 2012, under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council, has succeeded in the last three years to collect 13 thousand and 223 Blood Unit.

She said that the center deals with about 63 thousand donors from 149 nationalities, which is the highest in the country, which enabled it to obtain donors with blood varieties of few presence, and rare at the level of accurate and expanded classification of blood groups, where the Center has established a register of donors Blood Center holders of rare blood types, and the Center continuously communicate with them, and renew their data, to ensure easy access to them in emergencies and the need for such rare items.

She added: “The Authority recently launched the annual campaign (national blood) for various departments and institutions, government and private and community members in general, with the aim of collecting and strengthening the stock of the Dubai Blood Donation Center from different factions to serve patients, and accelerate the response to emergencies, and the campaign will continue until December 10 Next, coinciding with the UAE National Day celebrations, it has won and registered new donors to the center, spreading awareness and health education about the importance of blood donation and its role in saving patients' lives. ”

She continued: «The Center provides hospitals of the Authority, and any private hospital in Dubai, the needs of blood to meet any emergency conditions, or treatments based on blood, or surgical operations, pointing out that 36% of the blood collected in the center of Dubai goes to Thalassemia Center, Patients need frequent blood transfusions.

She pointed out that the application of «blood» launched by the Authority is the first in the Middle East and Europe for blood donors, has succeeded in creating it to be the most sophisticated smart way to donate blood, and enable donors to continue to give and make in order to save the lives of others. The process of donating blood is more smooth and easy, it starts with a touch on the phone, and within a few minutes the required procedures are done before the process of drawing blood from the donor.

Notice and delight blood donors

Dr. Mai Raouf, Director of the Dubai Blood Donation Center (DHC), has announced that the Authority has developed an electronic service to notify and delight blood donors, through which blood donors are notified in case of additional blood tests, by linking the electronic system in the Department of Disease Testing. The service is delivered by sending text messages to donors, reminding them of the next donation date, and sending text messages of thanks and appreciation to each donor.
