It was an officer at the Migration Board in Uppsala who discovered his colleagues' mistakes by chance. The manager - who is no longer working - realized that the man had to live in uncertainty completely unnecessarily, and JO-notified his own employer.

The decision to expel was made in the summer of 2016, but the man was first notified in February 2018 when he visited the Uppsala office.

JO notes that the Migration Board's handling of the case has several shortcomings.

The fact that it took a year and eight months before the decision was announced calls the JO as "unacceptable", and the Migration Board is criticized for the "inadequate handling".

"We are sorry for what happened"

- We take a serious look at the criticism and regret what happened - whatever decision you make, the treatment should be done as soon as possible, says Per Ek, head of the press at the Migration Board.

The work will now follow up the criticism internally.

That this was discovered, can they have any consequences for the employees who have been involved?

- I can't say anything else but that we are looking at what has not worked and why, says Per Ek.
