Tunisian President Qais Said said on Monday that Ennahda candidate Habib Jamli was officially appointed to form the new government, Al Jazeera correspondent reported.

The Ennahda Party announced earlier today that it nominated al-Jamali to head the next government, according to the spokesman of the movement Emad Khamiri.

Habib Jamli, 60, a former state secretary to the Minister of Agriculture (2011-2014), presents himself as having no political affiliation.

Al-Jamli, an agronomist, served in the Ennahdha governments, headed by Hammadi Jebali and Ali Al-Aridh.

It is noteworthy that the party's President Rashid Ghannouchi met today with Tunisian President Qais Said "to inform the President of the Republic of the name of the proposed figure for the post of prime minister," according to a statement by the Tunisian presidency.

The Tunisian constitution, passed in 2014, stipulates that the prime minister-designate shall form the government within a period not exceeding 60 days.
