Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said he had informed the US side that the proposal to cancel the purchase of the Russian system "S400" in full is a violation of Turkish sovereign rights.

Erdogan said in comments on the plane that took him to Ankara after the end of talks in the White House with his US counterpart Donald Trump - that he could not abandon the system "S400" in exchange for the US missile system Patriot.

"We cannot give up the S400 and go to the Patriot," he said. "We have told the Americans that we want to buy the latter as well as keep the former. I want the United States and Russia to be friends with Turkey, and our efforts are aimed at that."

After meeting with his Turkish counterpart at the White House, US President Donald Trump said he hoped to reach a settlement with Turkey over the Russian missile system deal.

On the other hand, President Erdogan expressed his hope for a positive outcome at the end of the Turkish-American talks on the deal "F-35", stressing that he felt a much more positive direction from President Trump on this issue.

Erdogan also said that opponents of President Trump are making intensive efforts to sabotage relations between Ankara and Washington.``Trump is making a sincere effort to solve problems between Turkey and the United States, based on mutual respect and national interests.

He added that "dialogue based on the right information is the way to resolve differences of views between Turkey and the United States."

Regarding the extradition of Turkish preacher Fethullah Gulen, who is accused by the Turkish authorities and his organization of being behind the failed coup in 2016, Erdogan said that "the meetings are continuing between the ministries of justice (Turkish and US) and we will follow the issue tirelessly."
