On Wednesday, the quartet consisting of the Social Democrats, the Center, the Liberals and the Christian Democrats decided that the retirement home of the Carpenter in Norrköping should be closed down. That with the support of the Left Party. The reason for the closure is Norrköping Municipality's economy, where all committees have been required by the City Council to save money. The Board of Health and Care Services will save a total of SEK 86 million next year.

"Nothing you do overnight"

- Closing and moving a home is nothing you do overnight, but the sooner we made this decision, the greater the impact we will have next year financially, says Olle Vikmån (S), chairman of the care and care committee in the municipality of Norrköping.

But this is not the first time the Carpenter closes. In 2012 it was decided to close down the elderly housing - but already in 2015 it opened again.

Is there a risk that you will have to open the Carpenter again?

- No, I don't see that risk. In recent years, we have greatly expanded the number of places for the elderly. When the Timber Name was reopened we had a big queue, we do not have today. We also have a plan ahead for continued expansion, says Olle Vikmån.

There is no clear timetable for when the Carpenter will be laid down.

- It's too early to say. At the earliest, it may be after the new retirement home built on Kolonigatan opens at the end of February-March next year, says Olle Vikmån.

At the same time, the Moderates in Norrköping are critical.

- There are no forecasts to show that the need for, for example, SÄBO sites is decreasing. On the contrary, the sex is longer today than it was a few months ago. It was reported to the Board as late as today. Of course, we take a serious look at the board's financial situation, but know that there are other measures to be taken. We want to see measures that do not affect our elderly in the same direct way that this decision will do, says Anna Sotkasiira Wik (M) in a press release.
