Several days after the terrorist attack that targeted a convoy of the mining company Semafo, the company does not consider the final closure of the mine. This was announced by its chief executive officer after meeting the Burkinabè Prime Minister in Ouagadougou.

" I received a delegation from SEMAFO led by #Carol #Mcqueen the Canadian Ambassador to Burkina Faso. The CEO of SEMAFO INC # Benoît Desormeaux came to show his compassion for the people of Burkina Faso following the #Boungou attack. Thank you for this step, "wrote the Burkinabe Prime Minister on his Twitter account.

After the attack on the convoy, which killed 39 people and injured some 60 workers among the Semafo mine in Boungou, production operations are stopped on the site. There is currently no question of closing the mine permanently, according to Benoit Desormeaux, CEO of Semafo Inc.

" It's a very big accident that has significant repercussions. We must re-evaluate the environment in which we operate, and make sure that we will do it again safely. The operations today are stopped, and we will resume operations when we can ensure that it is done safely. But we are not talking about leaving Burkina Faso. "

The priority for the company, according to its CEO, is the safety of employees, especially those who are still on the site. And the evacuation operations are still ongoing, reassures Benoit Desormeaux. " Our only priority right now is our employees, families, employees who are still on the site. So we still have a few days to evacuate people who must leave the site. "

The time is not yet with the Burkinabe authorities on the new security device that will be put in place, according to officials of the mine.
