As the United States-led volunteer alliance established a headquarters to ensure the safety of the Holmes Strait in the Middle East, the Japanese government is working on the cooperation between the Self-Defense Forces and the voluntary alliance, We will carefully coordinate with related countries on securing bases for this purpose.

The US military announced on July 7 that the Volunteer Alliance for ensuring the safety of the Holmes Strait, etc. has set up a headquarters in Bahrain, the Middle East, and will begin full-scale surveillance activities.

Under these circumstances, the Japanese government is considering the dispatch of the Self-Defense Forces to the Middle East region as a unique initiative without joining the volunteer association.

On the other hand, regarding the size of the Self-Defense Forces to be dispatched, the Ministry of Defense gathered information on one of the patrol aircraft based on the fact that one escort ship and two patrol aircraft were used for anti-piracy measures off Somalia based in Djibouti in eastern Africa. We are considering a plan to dispatch a new escort vessel as well.

However, since Oman Bay, which is considered to be the center of activities, is located away from Djibouti, it is necessary to secure a base for supply and maintenance in the Middle East, so the government should consider the relationship with Iran. However, we will carefully coordinate with relevant countries such as Oman.
