The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has identified what it considers to be the “most important reason for failure” in the final examination for a driving license.

Reasons include the lack of verification of the driving position, which includes the seat belt even for passengers in the rear seat, where a number of examiners usually participate in the same vehicle during the examination, to take the exam sequentially.

According to the latest statistics of the Authority, the success rate of driving test in Dubai reached 37% since the beginning of this year until the end of last September.

Abdullah Yousuf Al Ali, Executive Director of the Licensing Corporation at the Authority, confirmed to Emirates Today that the number of successful testers during the current year has increased by 5% as a result of the improvement in the performance of trainers and the development. In the new systems used in leadership training.

Al-Ali said that the smart tests currently adopted in driving tests have contributed greatly to raising the percentage of accuracy and transparency in the test results, and thus increased the success rate during the past few years.

He added that the control systems followed in the audit of the work of the training institutes for leadership also contributed to raising the success rates.

Al-Ali said that the reasons for failure in the leadership test, which stood at 63% during the period from the beginning of this year until the end of last September, include confidence as the key to success, however, he warned against exceeding the required level, because over-showing confidence may lead to Many mistakes during the exam submission.

He continued that the second reason is «poor concentration», as a result of not getting enough rest before the examination, pointing out that it distracts the state of mind, and lead to mistakes and failure.

The reasons included the inability to choose the appropriate speed. Al Ali pointed out that speeding is one of the reasons for failure, pointing to the need to maintain the appropriate speed, appropriate for the road «do not exceed the limits allowed, and not slow, so as not to pose a danger to drivers on the road».

He considered that the lack of control of the vehicle's brakes is one of the most frequent causes of failures, advising against the use of brakes in a sudden or relaxed manner, because the behavior may be dangerous. He called for making sure to look through the rear-view mirror, before stopping, and to consider it regularly.

He pointed to repeated mistakes when driving in turns, and when changing lanes.

Regarding checking the driving position during the test, he said that it is important. It includes procedures such as checking doors, adjusting the seat and mirrors of the vehicle, fastening the seat belt before moving in the car, and directing passengers in the back seat to fasten their seat belts as well.

As for the failure of the exam in relation to the element of dread and fear of examination, Al Ali stressed that this problem has been overcome by a number of remarkable procedures, including «the need to sit in the lull room before going to the final practical examination required to obtain a driver's license».

He explained that the trainee sits with the examiner in the calm room, to identify him, and break the barrier of fear before moving to the vehicle, pointing out that «usually has a positive impact in the examiner».

He continued that «the examiner gives the examiner an idea, during the session, about the nature of the examination, and asked him not to worry or nervous, so as not to negatively affect his concentration and behavior during the exam».
