WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell told reporters on Monday that if the Senate votes on the issue of President Donald Trump's trial for default, the vote will not lead to the overthrow of the president.

McConnell was quoted by Bloomberg News as saying he would "withhold judgment" on daily developments to investigate the impeachment of the president. He stressed that Republicans in the Senate will not be able to "manage" the trial of default. "The majority leader has no power to govern here," he said. "We have rules on impeachment."

McConnell said the length of the trial on the indictment was "indefinite".
