A bus from the Semafo mine in Boungou in the eastern region was targeted by gunmen on Wednesday (November 6th). Several workers are still missing. Many wounded are taken care of.

Difficult to give a final assessment of this attack. For about sixty mine workers are still untraceable. About sixty wounded is still supported.

In a statement, the mining company explains that the convoy was attacked about forty kilometers from the Boungou site. The convoy was accompanied by an escort of Burkinabe soldiers. It consisted of several buses carrying Burkinabè employees, contractors and suppliers of the mine.

According to security sources, it was around 9:30 local Wednesday that armed men attacked the convoy. The vehicle of the soldiers responsible for securing the convoy jumped on an improvised explosive device. And this was followed by exchanges of fire between the military and the attackers. In a panic, bus passengers scattered in the bush, chased by gunmen.

The incident occurred in an area not effectively covered by the telephone networks, which according to our sources has made it difficult to get reinforcement on the spot quickly. A cabinet council chaired by the head of government is scheduled for Thursday.
