The diplomat said that the statement by the American side about a possible withdrawal from the treaty came as a surprise to Russia.

He also said that Russia will take retaliatory measures if the United States nevertheless withdraws from the treaty, stating that "everything is ready for us."

It is noted that the Open Skies Treaty has been in force since 2002 and allows participating countries to openly collect information about each other's armed forces and activities.
