Bottas in Austin qualifying

02 November 2019Quinta pole of the season for Valtteri Bottas. The Finn of the Mercedes was the fastest in qualifying for the GP of the USA, on the track in Austin, Texas, ahead of the time of 1.32.029 ahead of the Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel for 12 thousandths.

Verstappen, with Red Bull, third with Leclerc's other Ferrari. Fifth time for Lewis Hamilton, who signs one of his worst qualifications in the US GP. Thus the number of Ferrari's consecutive poles stops at six.

The qualification of Leclerc was conditioned by an engine problem in the third free practice session. During the course of his first out-lap, the Monegasque driver in fact had to stop Ferrari in the third sector: from the rear of his SF90 a white smoke came out that forced the Ferrari driver to park the car on the track. And for the mechanics it was a race against time to make the car ready for qualifying, using the Q1 above to make as many laps as possible. In Q2 the Ferrari driver was still the fastest in front of his team-mate Vettel.
