Changes to the dl Security and the agreement of 2017 with Libya
Meanwhile, the Democratic Party is working on modifying security. "We want to incorporate the indications of President Mattarella, as the minister Lamorgese also explained. According to Interior Minister Luciana Lamorgese "we are not facing any invasion: just think that in 2019 there were about 9,600 arrivals compared to 22,000 in all of 2018". The minister acknowledges that in September there was an increase in arrivals, "but it is mainly due to the increase in autonomous landings".
For the leader of the League Matteo Salvini, instead "the minister shows he does not even know the official data stating that the landings have increased only in September: instead they have grown both in September (2.498 against the 947 of 2018) and in October (2.015 against i 1,007 a year ago), or since she is there ".
On the Memorandum with Libya, Lamorgese ensures that work is being done to change it: assisted voluntary repatriation must be supported and "Libyan centers must be emptied through the European humanitarian corridors". According to Davide Faraone (Italia Viva) "a new negotiation with the Libyan government and with Europe must be started to define humanitarian interventions that allow an evacuation plan for people detained in government centers and a European sea rescue device coordinated by the NGOs that operate in the Mediterranean ".
On the Government's table there is also the modification of Salvini's security decrees. They will be 'correct' by the end of the year, assures Lamorgese. Meanwhile, Open Polis takes stock of one year after the first decree, which eliminated humanitarian protection. The denials of the asylum request have risen to 80%, the repatriations are stopped and the number of irregular immigrants continues to increase: they will be 680 thousand by 2019 and will exceed 750 thousand in January 2021 (they were 491 thousand in 2017).
