Lewis Hamilton, who could be crowned Sunday for the sixth time world champion F1 after the GP of the United States, said he would most certainly lead the new cars whose technical regulations were unveiled Thursday.

Asked if he would drive the next-generation F1s, the Mercedes driver replied, "Continue Yes, I'm still enjoying a new challenge, this team has shown that they are the best prepared and in the better position to react to changes ".

"The cars will be slower," he said, but "it's going to be an interesting time, I intend to be there and at some point next year I'll start thinking about 2021 and to be the pioneer of this era, "he said at a press conference.

The 34-year-old British champion had previously indicated that his decision to continue or not in F1 in the future would depend on these new rules that aim to make racing more interesting by making technical changes allowing F1 to double more easily.

He regretted, however, that the post-2020 F1s will be heavier than the current ones. "The cars are getting heavier and I hope it does not continue like that because it slows the cars, wears the tires that are a determining element of the races".

"It puts more pressure on Pirelli (who is on the F1 set) but they have never received any clear indications of tire development, and I hope this time they will have it for sure. we can drive better, "he continued.

"Nothing is ever in the plate for the future," he added, however, that his contract with Mercedes runs until the end of 2020.

"I'm very happy with what I'm doing now and I do not see any reason to stop. When there is a challenge like a rule change, it's important for me as a pilot to use the skills acquired during the course. years to help lead the team in the right direction. "

"I do not really see myself going anywhere, I like being part of the brand (Mercedes) and its history," he added.
