Joshua Wong ousted. The pro-democracy activist said on Tuesday (October 29th) that he is the only candidate banned from district council elections, scheduled for November in Hong Kong.

In a note released on the same day, the Hong Kong Electoral Affairs Commission said Joshua Wong's candidacy was deemed "invalid".

"Political filtering" and "censorship"

"I strongly condemn the fact that the government is engaged in political filtering and censorship, and deprives me of my political rights," the activist said in a statement on his Facebook page.

For its part, the government declared that the mitant, figure of the "Umbrellas Movement" could not comply with the requirements of the electoral laws.

Since June, almost daily, Hong Kong has seen actions and demonstrations denouncing the decline of freedoms and the growing interference of China in the affairs of its semi-autonomous region, but also require democratic reforms.
