WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States on Monday confirmed the killing of Islamic State spokesman Abu Hassan al-Muhajir, a senior State Department official, in another operation by US forces after the group's leader was killed, a senior State Department official said.

The US official, who spoke to reporters on condition of anonymity, said the immigrant was killed in the city of Jarablus in Aleppo province in northern Syria.

The operation, which led to the "elimination of one of Baghdadi's top aides," was also carried out by US forces, the official said, adding that the SDF had a major role to play.

The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces said on Sunday that Muhajir had been killed during a joint raid with US forces in northern Syria.

The commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces, Mazloum Abdi, said the operation was a continuation of the previous operation in which Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was killed over the weekend.

He described the group's spokesman Abdi as Baghdadi's right-hand man.

The Anatolia correspondent in Jarablus has reported that the US Air Force bombed on Sunday at about 19:30 local time two trucks as they were walking near Jarablus.

He said that members of the Syrian National Army (the opposition) moved to the scene of the trucks after hearing the sounds of the bombings, and found three bodies, and suspected that one of the body belonged to Abu Hassan al-Muhajir.

He pointed out that one of the dead was hiding in a secret section of one of the trucks and died burned.
