"The infamous information campaign about the alleged spread of Nazi ideology among the personnel of a separate special-purpose detachment" Azov "... is a deliberate attempt to discredit the unit," the Interior Ministry press service quoted Avakov as saying.

In his opinion, this is an “attempt to provoke a crisis” in relations between Ukraine and its allies and weaken the country's position in the world.

Earlier, members of the US Congress, headed by Max Rose, appealed to the State Department with a request to recognize the Ukrainian volunteer regiment "Azov" as a foreign terrorist organization.

According to American politicians, Azov is an ultranationalist organization of supporters of the superiority of the white race, "which openly accepts neo-Nazis into its ranks."

Later, the regiment's leadership expressed the opinion that such a decision is an information attack on Ukraine. The organization noted that the Azov regiment, as the official structure of the National Guard, is subordinate to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine and the General Staff.

Russian ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov, in turn, noted that the US authorities began to realize the threat posed by Azov.

The President of the Ukrainian Analytical Center, Alexander Okhrimenko, in an interview with the NSN, said that the regiment could be disbanded, and its fighters would be part of the National Guard of Ukraine.
