During the road, a tunnel will also be built where pedestrian and bicycle traffic will be directed. All to make the accident-prone intersection safer.

- Finally! Of all the improvements of E18 through Karlskoga that we work for, Ekebykorset has always had the highest priority. The new solution will provide security and be a boost for Karlskoga as a city, says Tony Ring (M), municipal council in Karlskoga.

Starting in the spring

The first spade roof will be taken on March 11 next year and is expected to be completed by the end of 2021. Initially, management work will be performed to prepare the remodeling.

- This means that road users will initially not notice much of the work being started, says Nicklas Broberg, project manager at the Swedish Transport Administration.

Mini roundabout

The goal is that traffic will be able to pass through the site throughout the construction period, but this will cause some interference.

- We have started a dialogue with the contractor. Today there are two plus two lanes, but it will be a limitation during parts of the construction period. It can be a solution with a temporary circulation space in the form of a mini roundabout.

Encourages road users to show consideration

Right now people are developing construction documents for the pedestrian and bicycle tunnel with stairs and retaining walls. Before the work begins, the municipality and the Swedish Transport Administration will make an information effort and invite the public to tell about the work.

- It is positive that we now have a contractor and can plan the work in detail and that we can get started soon. It will take time and we all ask for consideration in the meantime. The best thing about this is that unprotected road users when the work is done will be able to cross safely, says Nicklas Broberg, project manager at the Swedish Transport Administration.
