Today, requirements for medical or psychological testing apply to the abortion board's abortion committee if a woman wants to have an abortion after week 18. So far, the Swedish Democrats have had the requirement that this examination be done after week 12.

Several exercise requirements

But now the party is ready to abandon that claim. Prior to the party's national days in November, a number of exercise requirements have been submitted for this. In a speech to the SD women in Norrköping on Saturday, Jimmie Åkesson revealed that the party board is prepared to meet the requirement.

-We have appointed a group to look at this issue, and it comes to the same conclusion, that if the goal is to reduce the number of unwanted pregnancies, and ultimately reduce abortion rates to Nordic levels, then it is not legislation that primarily is useful and definitely not a discussion about when to end pregnancy, Åkesson tells TT.

"Up to the woman"

Åkesson further believes that the issue is really meaningless, since most abortions occur before week 12.

-You always end up in these ethical decisions, and the reason must be that it is up to the woman to decide for herself whether she wants to terminate her pregnancy or not. And then it is reasonable to make a difference as to whether a fetus is viable or not, and medical science is pretty clear that up to 18th week there is no fetus that is viable, and then there is no need to change that, he says.

Another message to the SD women was that the party now wants to remove the upper age limit for mammography and screening.
