A double attack was carried out early Saturday morning against two detachments of the defense and security forces in the northern region. Gunmen attacked the Yensé military detachments in Yatenga province and the Banh military detachment in Lorum. According to security sources, the attackers were able to gain access to Yensé's facilities, but Banh's attack was postponed. At least five military and police officers were killed in both attacks.

The attacks took place in the early morning, around 3am. Armed groups came in large numbers according to several security sources. The assault was launched first on the Yensé detachment. The border police station and the military detachment were targeted by " rocket and heavy weapon fire, " our source said. The attackers managed to take the detachment. " The border police station has fallen and the camp is smashed, " another source said.

Our interlocutor confirms that weapons were taken away and the attackers set fire to the rest of the equipment before leaving the camp. A few minutes later, Banh's detachment was attacked. " It was simultaneous attacks, only a few minutes between the two attacks, " says our source. There also rockets and heavy weapons were used. But the soldiers present were able to repel the attack.

In a statement, the General Staff of the Armed Forces said that the response of the units on the ground allowed the detachments attacked to keep control of their bases, even before the arrival of reinforcements. This double attack in the Northern region comes just days after a curfew is introduced in several provinces of the North, Sahel and North-Central
