The president of the Generalitat, Quim Torra, has called for "stopping right now" the acts of vandalism that have also occurred tonight in Barcelona to prevent these incidents from damaging independence, while warning about "infiltrated groups "in these riots.

After a second night of riots in Barcelona, Torra has called for "serenity" and has said: "This must be stopped right now. There is no reason or justification for a vandalism . "

After images of bonfires and altercations were repeated in the center of the Catalan capital, Torra has sent a brief institutional message through TV3.

The president wanted to make it clear that the independence movement "is not and has not been violent," and that "always" has condemned violence , and has called for a cessation of violent attitudes.

The president has assured that the independence protests have always been "peaceful and civic", because this mood makes us "not lose our mind," he warned.

He then appealed not to allow acts provoked, according to him, by "groups of infiltrators and provocateurs" to damage the image of independence. "We must not fall into the trap they put us ... We will not tolerate provocations" by a few, he said.

The Catalan president has labeled "normal and good" that there are protests before an "aberrant" sentence, he said in reference to the ruling of the Supreme Court that has sentenced the independence leaders between 9 and 13 years.

"On October 1 we defeated the State without destroying anything. Independence builds, does not destroy; it does not go against anyone," added Torra, who has asked for "serenity, determination, civility and nonviolence" on the open stage after sentencing.

Torra's message came a few hours after the president of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, urged the president of the Generalitat to condemn the violent acts that are occurring in Catalonia.

The president of the Generalitat has participated this Wednesday in one of the citizen marches organized by ANC and Òmnium to protest against the sentence.
