When the patient first sought care in the county, the pain was assessed to be due to an infection treated with antibiotics and painkillers. An ultrasound examination was scheduled within two weeks and the patient was sent home.

The problems for the patient increased and he was forced to seek care again a few days later. Then the same assessment was made that it was an infection and antibiotics were exchanged and the patient returned home.

Operated away

When the symptoms did not improve after five days, an ultrasound was performed which showed that the testicle was twisted and the patient was operated on urgently, but the testicle could not be salvaged and removed.

The incident is reported to the Swedish Inspectorate for Health and Care according to lex Maria. Region Västerbotten writes that measures have been taken to reduce the risk of recurrence.
