October 14, 2019The nationalist conservatives in power in Poland win the elections with 45.16% of the votes, according to the official results on 82.79% of the electoral colleges, released this morning. The Law and Justice Party (PiS) of Jaroslaw Kaczynski thus obtains an absolute majority for a new four-year term. The main opposition group, the Civic Coalition (KO, Centrist), is far behind with 26.10% of the votes.

Yesterday, on the polling day, the exit polls credited the PiS with 42.6 percent of the votes - Civic Platform - the opposition rival closest to President Kaczynski's party - placed second with 25.4 for a hundred of the consents, two percentage points less than those that the exit polls credited him.

Citizens are called to elect 460 deputies from the lower house (Sejm) and 100 members of the Senate for a four-year term. The threshold for obtaining seats is 5 percent for individual parties and 7 percent for coalitions.
