Thousands of people gathered to celebrate, waving Tunisian flags and pictures of Qais Said, firecrackers, and chanting pro-Said slogans, while motorists reacted to them with horns.

In a similar scene, citizens blocked the streets in most provinces, especially those that witnessed a revolutionary movement in the January 14 revolution, such as Kasserine and Sidi Bouzid, expressing their happiness at the arrival of Said to the Carthage Chair.

"He celebrates the victory of Qais Said, who considered it a victory for the principles of the revolution, and for the will of the educated Tunisian people," the 20-year-old told Al-Jazeera, noting that Tunisia needs a president with a scientific competence at the level of Qais Said, to get out of the economic and political crisis it knows.

For her part, said young Hanan Athami, who over the third decade, she has shifted from the city of Hammamet to the capital Tunis to celebrate the historic wedding that brings to mind the crowds that demanded the departure of Ben Ali, stressing that "the emerging democratic Tunisia will continue to be an experience to emulate Arab and international."

The triumph of democracy

Said is the seventh president of Tunisia since its independence from France in 1956, and the fourth president since the January 2011 revolution.

For his part, said Ayman Zamali, 40, who went out to celebrate the victory of his candidate with his wife and children, that those who raised the banners of the country confirmed that the Tunisians will not forget the martyrs of their revolution, so they went out to celebrate this victory, a victory for democracy.
