German Chancellor Angela Merkel has asked Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in a telephone conversation on Sunday to stop the Turkish military operation in northern Syria immediately, a government spokeswoman said.
The spokeswoman said in a statement: "Chancellor requested an immediate halt to the military operation," noting that the phone call was at the request of Erdogan.
