The American Patrick Day, evacuated unconscious from the ring on a stretcher after a knockout suffered during a boxing night on Saturday night in Chicago, then transported to the hospital where he underwent surgery, is in a coma, according to the American press.

According to the ESPN sports channel, Day underwent brain surgery and is in a coma. But it does not specify if the boxer fell into a coma, or if he was placed in artificial coma by doctors.

Day, 27, collapsed in the tenth round, his head hitting the rug heavily, on a terrible left hook of his compatriot Charles Conwell, in a fight between super-welters. He had already wobbled just before on his opponent's right.

According to the DAZN sports platform, he was convulsed when he got into the ambulance, and was put on artificial respiration as soon as he arrived at the hospital.

No details were given about the exact nature of his injury, and no release issued by his promoter, Matchroom Boxing.
