This was reported by TASS with reference to the press service of the department.

"Checking applicants for a driver’s license for their addiction to alcohol and the use of narcotic and psychotropic substances will be an effective measure for the prevention of traffic accidents," the report said.

Earlier it became known that in Russia in order to obtain a driver’s license it will be necessary to pass a test for determining blood carbohydrate-deficient transferrin (CDT), the presence of which indicates chronic alcoholism.

It was noted that the relevant order has already been adopted by the department and is currently being registered with the Ministry of Justice.

Auto expert Igor Morzharetto called the idea of checking drivers for chronic alcoholism the right measure, which, however, will not be difficult to circumvent.
