An Iranian ship has registered at least two explosions in the immediate vicinity of the Saudi port of Jeddah, in the Red Sea, according to the Iranian official IRNA.

The detonations have caused an opening in the hull and the consequent fuel spill in the Red Sea . According to IRNA, the tanker's crew is safe and the causes of the event are investigated.

Owned by the National Iranian Tanker Company (NITC), the operator that manages Iran's oil tanker fleet, the vessel was located about 100 km off the Saudi coast when it began to burn, Afp reports.
