The Migration Board is currently organized in six different regions: North, Central, Stockholm, West, East and South. Within each region there are units that receive asylum seekers and examine different types of residence permit applications. According to the proposals presented today, the six regions are to be converted into three.

No decisions made

- I would like to point out that no decisions have been made, but we want to be as transparent as we can with this work and that is why we have informed about this today, says Magnus Önnestig, who is currently regional manager for Mitt but is currently working on it here the regional review together with Åsa Carlander Hemingway. What the change means for the staff is currently too early to say according to him.

Norrbotten part of the Stockholm region

According to information to SVT Nyheter Norrbotten, Norrbotten will in the future belong to the Stockholm region - the one today called Mitt.

- At present, there is no decision on where the different regions are to be steered from, says Magnus Önnestig, who does not want to go into what the proposal for the new regions looks like.

- We will submit our proposal to the management in November, but it is too early to say what they look like.

Decisions on the new regional division are expected to come around Christmas.
