City mourning day in Trieste where the two policemen Pierluigi Rotta and Matteo Demenego were killed on Friday afternoon in the police station. In front of the place of the tragedy, at 12.30 a commemoration was held in memory of the agents: a minute of silence was observed, accompanied by the sirens of the Carabinieri, the Guardia di Finanza and the State Police and a wreath was placed.

Thousands for mass
Thousands of people then gathered to participate in the memorial Mass in the church of the Blessed Virgin of the Rosary, a few meters from the Questura. These were all outside, as the church can only hold a few dozen people. Among those who followed the ceremony were Minister Stefano Patuanelli, Vice-President of the Chamber Ettore Rosato, the local authorities, the religious authorities of the many confessions present in the city and many citizens who arrived spontaneously.

The ceremony at the police station
Immediately after Holy Mass in the church of the Rosary, a moving ceremony took place in the police headquarters, attended by the police commissioner Giuseppe Petronzi, the economic development minister Stefano Patuanelli, the governor Fvg Massimiliano Fedriga, Giuseppe Rosato and the mayor of Trieste Roberto Dipiazza, in addition to common people, policemen, and many friends, colleagues and relatives of the two policemen killed. All crammed onto the large atrium that had been the crime scene, where part of the tragic shooting had taken place, today a place of pain and tears.

The torchlight procession
Outside, thousands of people in front of the Trieste Police Headquarters participated in the silent torchlight procession in memory of Rotta and Demenego. Demenego's parents and brother and the girlfriends of the two agents killed were present inside the police headquarters. Many agents, deeply moved, and colleagues present. "Trieste, a silent torchlight procession marched for Matteo and Pierluigi. After a moment of prayer organized outside the Questura, the long applause in memory of the young policemen". It is the tweet of the State Police, published on the official profile of the body.

The investigations
The investigating magistrate validated the arrest of Alejandro Augusto Meran, 29, arrested on a charge of double murder of the two cold agents in the offices of Tor Bandena. According to the judge, from what we learn, against the young of Dominican origin there are "serious indications" that are concretized by the witnesses' report, by the forensic investigation and by the acquisition of the video of the cameras present both inside and outside of the police station.

The precautionary requirement is also motivated in the provision with the "concrete risk of escape". In the afternoon the young man of Dominican origin did not answer the judge's questions, after having already made use of the prosecutor yesterday. The 29-year-old, wounded at the groin level before being stopped, remains at the Cattinara hospital.

Meanwhile, it was learned that sixteen shots were fired yesterday by Alejandro Augusto Stephan Meran. The man, who had been arrested because he was accused of stealing a scooter, exploded the bullets holding the guns of both victims. Later it was ascertained that the man had exhausted the loaders of at least one of the two guns, he shot inside and outside the building, against the agents in the offices, against the guard personnel and against the policemen of the Mobile in car in front of the Police Headquarters.

The two agents foiled a suicide
The two agents killed, Pierluigi Rotta and Matteo Demenego, were the protagonists of a delicate operation a week ago, to dissuade a minor from committing suicide. This was announced by the quaestor Giuseppe Petronzi in a brief interview with the TgR Friuli Venezia Giulia. To the journalist Antonio Di Bartolomeo, Petronzi revealed the intervention that, at the time, due to the delicacy of the fact, had not been made known.

Petronzi told of a boy's report on a bridge engaged in an "unequivocal action" aimed at making an extreme gesture and that Rotta and Demenego "were extremely reactive" manifesting an "extreme delicacy" towards the fifteen year old. At first they talked to him then they managed to approach him and dissuade him.
