by Tiziana Di Giovannandrea 05 October 2019The appearance of smoke in the cabin has forced the flight of British Airways, which started from Bari in the direction of London, to make an emergency flight to Basel.

A lot of fear but no damage for the 165 passengers of the A320 while 4 crew members were intoxicated by inhalation because of the smoke emitted from the cabin.

The communications manager of the Basel airport, Vivienne Gaskell, after communicating that the 165 passengers were unharmed, added that the 4 crew members "suffered from the smoke" and were "transported to the hospital".

The decision to land at Basel-Mulhouse airport, on the border between France, Switzerland and Germany, was taken by the crew after the appearance of smoke in the cabin.

Air traffic was interrupted for 20 minutes with 3 incoming flights diverted to Zurich and Stuttgart and 5 departing flights were delayed by about 25 minutes.

The pilot, as reported by the airport, warned the nearest control tower as soon as he noticed the smoke in the cabin and landed at 1:19 pm with the fire services and airport rescue deployed for emergency cases.

The British Airways company has announced that by the end of the afternoon another device has been prepared, rented, to allow the 165 passengers to reach the London Heathrow airport.

The cause of the appearance of smoke is currently unknown.
