by Tiziana Di Giovannandrea October 04, 2019A majority agreement was found in the Senate on the provision that aims to regulate the work and protection of riders, the messengers who take an order on the Internet, from an online food delivery platform, for a home delivery.

The amendment will be presented in the so-called Crisis Decree under discussion in Palazzo Madama.

The rule provides for employees on an ongoing basis the protections of subordinate work, while for those who work occasionally and discontinuously a minimum package of mandatory rights (no billing, minimum hourly pay linked to the National Labor Contracts, health and safety, social protection) to which a specific regulation can be added by entering into collective agreements.

The main purpose of the provision is to stimulate collective bargaining in this sector, which will have the task of regulating the figure of the riders.

"I am very satisfied because these workers will finally have more rights and protection" is the comment of the Minister of Labor and Social Policies, Nunzia Catalfo.

Riders Bologna: on text step forward but need to narrow on occasional
"It is certainly a step forward compared to the old DL and we appreciate the willingness of the Minister Catalfo to take back a dossier that seemed to be closed. It remains to be understood, and on this we are much more skeptical than before, if the package of measures is effective. and if indeed he will be able to extend rights and protections ". Thus Riders Union Bologna commented on the text of the amendment to the Crisis Decree on which the parliamentary majority found an agreement, but placed a strong emphasis on workers on two occasional wheels.

According to Riders Union, Bologna would need "a vigorous close to occasional work that risks becoming the venting point for all companies: companies will be reorganized without restriction to prevent ongoing workers from actually existing, only collaborations".
