The Egyptian High State Security Prosecutor decided on Sunday evening to hold human rights lawyer Mohamed al-Baqir 15 days in custody after being charged with spreading false news and joining a terrorist group, the Egyptian Commission for Rights and Freedoms said.

Yesterday, security forces seized the lawyer Mohammed Al-Baqer while attending the prosecution's investigations with human rights activist Alaa Abdel-Fattah in the Supreme State Security Prosecution in the Fifth Settlement after his client was arrested the same morning after he proved his presence inside the police station.

The decision to imprison al-Baqir angered lawyers and jurists, accusing their syndicate of failing to protect lawyers in the course of their work, and the Bar Association Sameh Ashour of colluding with the regime to waste the rights of lawyers and defendants after the arrest of lawyers.

Authorities and lawyers have also arrested Sahar Ali, one of the most active lawyers in defending the defendants in recent demonstrations cases, while state media and close to the regime are cracking down on defenders of defendants in political cases and protesters recently detained in Friday's demonstrations.

Lawyers were prevented days before entering the South Cairo court to attend investigations with people arrested in the demonstrations, and arrested Mohamed Salah Ajaj, the undersecretary of the Bar Association in Suez, head of its Liberties Committee while going to court.

Lawyer Mohamed Hamdi Younis was arrested after he announced a report to the Attorney General to investigate the corruption allegations made by the contractor and artist Mohamed Ali against President Abdel Fattah El Sisi in his videos.

Lawyer Ahmed Sarhan, who in a video announced the authorities' request to disclose the whereabouts of lawyer Mohamed Hamdi, was arrested while he was going to the Public Prosecutor's Office to file a report to reveal the whereabouts of his colleague. Until now.
