June 26, 2019After the sharp declines in the last quarter, also for the next three months, a generally favorable trend in energy bills for protected customers is confirmed for consumers. From July 1, in fact, for the typical family there is a marked decline in gas bills (-6.9%) and a slight increase for those of electricity (+ 1.9%), which only partly affects the decline in the previous three months (-8.5%), a result that is still favorable in view of the start of the summer season, characterized by the lighting of the cooling systems.

The updates are mainly linked to the expected trends in raw material prices in the wholesale energy markets, national and international, in the next quarter. For electricity, it is significant that the slight final increase is the result of an increase in electricity purchase costs, mitigated by a slight adjustment in reduction of general charges which, after the recovery actions of the 2018 maneuvers to protect the consumers concluded with the previous update, they now return to follow "ordinary" adjustment paths.

As far as electricity is concerned, in fact, the update - valid from 1st July - is determined by an increase in the component to cover energy expenditure (+ 2.65%), partially reduced by a drop in that for general expenses (-0.75%). The increase in the raw material component is mainly linked to the normal seasonal trend of the markets, partly offset by the prices of energy commodities, in particular the low prices of natural gas (still aligned between the Asian and European markets). Added to this are quotations of CO2 emission permits that are still stable at high levels. The condition of a substantial recovery in the year ahead of the proceeds of the general charges, against some downward revisions of the forecasts of charges to be covered, then allowed a slight reduction of them.

For natural gas the trend is substantially determined in full by the reduction in raw material expenditure (-6.9% on the expenditure of the typical family), linked to the seasonal prices expected in the wholesale markets in the next quarter. As regards a measurement of the effects on households (gross of taxes), for electricity the expenditure for the typical family, in the sliding year (between 1 October 2018 and 30 September 2019) will be 566 euros. At the same time, the typical household spending on the gas bill will be around € 1,150. "The changes in this quarter show the usual attention to the performance of energy markets and commodities" - affirms the Chairman of the Authority Stefano Besseghini - "but , in the light of the actions implemented in the two previous quarters, also make it possible to contain the trend of general charges, in a general framework of stability "
