Putin noted the importance of “this rich intellectual technological heritage and truly inexhaustible evolutionary capabilities of the nuclear industry” to be used to “modernize the national economy, ensure the country's defense and energy security, and strengthen Russia's competitiveness in global markets.”

The Russian leader also noted in his message that “among the undoubted successes of the current generation of nuclear scientists is the creation of a new generation of weapons capable of ensuring strategic balance in the world for decades to come.”

Previously, Putin said that Russia would produce medium- and shorter-range missiles, which had previously been banned by the INF Treaty, but would not deploy them to the United States.

In February, the Russian president said that there would be no analogues for modern Russian weapons in the world for a long time to come.
