Former Ivory Coast star Didier Drogba has praised Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham after his impressive start to the Premier League season with Frank Lampard and said the youngster learned from him during his time at Stamford Bridge.

Abraham has scored seven goals in five Premier League games, including a hat-trick in a 5-2 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers in the last round, after Lampard gave the England Under-21s a chance to play in the face of a ban.

Drogba, who has scored 164 goals for Chelsea in all competitions, told Sky Sports that Abraham benefited from veteran players during his development at the club's academy.

The former Ivory Coast captain, who has won four league titles with Chelsea alongside the 2012 Champions League title, added: "I know Abraham since I was in Chelsea, some boys have come to watch us in training, and I think he learned a bit from our skills and our way of dealing with the games. Its current level. "

Abraham spent last season with current teammate Mason Mount in the second division under Lampard.

Drogba believes his former teammate's bet on youngsters in the domestic and Champions League will prove a success.

"I think Lampard is very focused and it is good that he is a former player at the club and he knows these promising talents because he has seen them for a while."

"He is happy with his work and the team may be inexperienced in big games, especially in the Champions League, but I'm not worried and the public understands that."

Chelsea, who have eight points from five games and are sixth, host European champions Liverpool with a 15-point mark on Sunday after a 1-0 home defeat by Valencia at the start of the Champions League on Tuesday.
