It's a big bang that is coming to France in the fight against drugs. Four ministers presented this Tuesday morning in Marseille the new organization "anti-stup". Several announced measures are announced: introduction of the lump sum fine in 2020, awareness against the misdeeds of drugs. But the big news is the redesign of the body responsible for combating trafficking. The goal: to get closer to what is being done in terms of anti-terrorism, by mixing information and police response.

An amount of 3.5 billion euros per year is the estimated turnover of drug trafficking in France, the largest criminal market in the country. The response of the government to deal with it: a complete overhaul of anti-drug agencies. This requires a change of mentality. The goal is to get everyone working together to avoid service quarrels.

Concretely, there will be a new office, unique, the OFAST. Its doors will be open to customs officers, gendarmes, and magistrates. However, he will remain headed by a police commissioner, a leader. The inspiration is clear: this organization is modeled on what is done at the DGSI, intelligence inside, in the fight against terrorism.

With @NBelloubet, @GDarmanin and @NunezLaurent, we will present #Marseille, from 11:15 am, the #PlanAntiStups of the Government.

Focus on field work

Priority will therefore be given to field work in connection with the police services. This development will also make it possible to turn the page of the current central office for the suppression of the illegal traffic of narcotics. An office marked by scandals in recent years, including the case François Thierry. This is the name of his former boss, indicted in 2017, is suspected of having himself participated in a drug trafficking.

Initially announced for the summer of 2018 by President Emmanuel Macron during the presentation of measures in favor of the suburbs, the plan " anti-stups ", which provides for the creation of this office , suffered from the political and social storms that shook the executive for more than a year, between Benalla affair , resignation of GĂ©rard Collomb or yellow jacket crisis .

Several sources close to the file also argued that the plan had been the subject of heated discussions between ministries and administrations.
