Faced since April 2018 with the grumbling of his fellow citizens who want his departure and that of his wife, also vice-president, the president Daniel Ortega would have decided to accentuate even more the repression, according to a report presented Friday 13 September by the Nicaraguan Commission human rights.

In Nicaragua, the months pass and the situation is still tense between a large part of the population and the regime of President Daniel Ortega who continues to turn a deaf ear and repress all the way.

Far from the capital Managua, Daniel Ortega is engaged in a real purge. In a report presented Friday, September 13, the Nicaraguan Commission for Human Rights reports extrajudicial executions in rural areas of the north of the country, far from the cameras.

These executions would mainly target the agricultural world, but not only. Seventeen peasants who had participated in many demonstrations to demand the departure of Daniel Ortega, and well known for their militancy, have been killed since last January.

62,000 opponents fled the country

This protest movement began with the mobilization of the peasant world to denounce a reform of social security. Since then, the Nicaraguan authorities, supported by paramilitary groups, have repressed all the time, instilling a sense of fear among the population.

In its report, the Commission mentions in particular the case of the Montenegro family, four of whom were killed in the north of the country. Three of them were refugees across the border in Honduras. According to this report, the Nicaraguan authorities would not have hesitated to cross this border to execute them.

Another new trend in this repressive impulse: the threats and intimidations to flee the country opponents. They would be more than 62 000 to have left Nicaragua. The political crisis that the country has been going through since April 2018 has left 328 dead and hundreds of people in prison.
