The relationship between Sweden and Israel has long been tense. With Margot Wallström as Foreign Minister, Sweden recognized Palestine as a state in 2014.

Now Sweden's new Foreign Minister Ann Linde (S) wants to recreate the relationship with Israel.

- It is very important that we have a good dialogue with Israel and Palestine. I'm fully prepared to get started, ”she says.

Netanyahu's election campaign

Today, a week before the election in Israel, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed his desire to impose Israeli sovereignty over parts of the West Bank, in the Jordan Valley and over the northern part of the Dead Sea.

- I think it's unfortunate. Both the EU and the international community say it is against international law. This is a prerequisite for eventually getting a two-state solution, says Ann Linde.

Linde believes that the best thing to do is to see what can be done when there is a new government in Israel.

- I can only state that the EU and we, and according to international law, you cannot annex that area, she says.

Scheduled meeting

Ann Linde also says that she already has a scheduled meeting with the Israeli ambassador.

- These are very difficult questions. Sometimes there will be misunderstandings. I see no reason why we do not have a good dialogue with both countries, she says.
