Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that he would impose Israeli sovereignty over the Jordan Valley and the northern Dead Sea in the West Bank if he were re-elected on September 17.

"There is one place where we can apply Israeli sovereignty immediately after the elections," Netanyahu said in a televised address, adding in a letter to voters: "If I have a clear mandate from you to do so ... I declare today my intention to establish Israel's sovereignty over the Jordan Valley and the northern Dead Sea ... This is important because this is the eastern border of Israel, with the Golan Heights on which (US President Donald) Trump has recognized our sovereignty. "

"We must reach a fixed border for the State of Israel to ensure that the West Bank does not become an area like the Gaza Strip," he said, adding that the Israeli army was obliged to be in all areas of the Jordan Valley.

The Israeli prime minister also promised to present to the next Knesset a complete project to deploy settlements in the Jordan Valley and to include other settlements after the publication of the Trump peace plan.

Walid al-Omari, the head of Al-Jazeera's office in Ramallah, said the move was an electoral propaganda par excellence, because Netanyahu had chosen an area that would have some sort of Israeli compromise between the center, right and extreme right that it would be under occupation under all circumstances, even if a solution was reached with the Palestinian Authority. , An area of 20% of the West Bank.

Al-Omari added that Netanyahu pointed out that this is done in coordination with Washington, because the Americans support everything that enjoys the Israeli accord, regardless of the Arab position.

Al-Omari said that Netanyahu wanted to make clear that he was the only one capable of doing so, as if he were asking voters to authorize him to do so, which requires the annexation of the Jordan Valley - not only the settlements - and turning the areas of Jericho and Awja into enclaves surrounded by the occupation forces.

The head of Al Jazeera's office said that Netanyahu understands that if he does not succeed in the elections and wins again as prime minister, he will go to jail for the corruption cases he is facing, so he will do anything to gain the most votes.
