“Today, under the colorful name“ democracy, ”the president’s office is creating a vertical of power that could soon become a rigid dictatorship,” he warned in the program “Ukrainian format” on the NEWSONE television channel.

In particular, Kiva criticized Zelensky’s bill to reassign him to the National Guard of Ukraine.

“I see no reason to submit this bill to the Verkhovna Rada. In addition, this will require amendments to the constitution and expansion of presidential powers, ”he explained.

The Ukrainian deputy recalled that under the current law, the main function of the National Guard is the protection of public order.

According to him, this indicates the "disturbing processes" that are taking place in Ukraine.

“Who puts the necessary information into the ears of the head of state is a secret for Ukrainians. Democracy must be able to defend itself. And the situation that unfolds in the country today is the beginning of the process of forming a dictatorship, ”Kiva emphasized.

He noted that in the Rada there is work “like on a conductor’s stick”, without discussions and “dissent”.

On August 30, Zelensky introduced a bill in the Rada that allowed the National Guard to be removed from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and transferred to its subordination.

According to the initiative, the National Guard commander will be appointed to the post and removed from it only by the president without any control from the Cabinet or the Rada.
