The opening of the monument was attended by representatives of the DPR authorities, the widow of Zakharchenko, the head of the self-proclaimed Lugansk People’s Republic Leonid Pasechnik, State Duma deputies, and representatives of South Ossetia and Abkhazia.

“Alexander Vladimirovich went down in history as a man who fought for the well-being of citizens of the DPR. He was a real father for officers and soldiers, they followed him, ”the head of the DPR Denis Pushilin said at the event.

Earlier in Donetsk, they announced plans to name the square after Zakharchenko.

Alexander Zakharchenko died on August 31, 2018 during an explosion in a cafe in the center of Donetsk.
