Two men, one with a knife and one with a barbecue, killed one person and wounded six others on Saturday afternoon in Villeurbanne, near Lyon (central-eastern France), police sources said.

Police confirmed that one had been arrested and that they were still searching for the other. About fifty firefighters were at the scene in the afternoon.

The incident took place near the metro station in Villeurbanne, a town bordering Lyon.

An AFP journalist saw a body placed inside a dedicated bag, which was taken to an ambulance amid traces of blood on the ground near the metro station, where police imposed a large security cordon.

Judicial authorities were not immediately available and the motives of the attackers were not known.

In May, an attack by a parcel bomb outside a bakery in central Lyon left 14 people lightly injured.
