"Surveillance cameras are far from the only effort we need to create safe schools, but it is a crucial beginning that the school day does not start with staff being allowed to sweep up glass shatterings," says Elias Aguirre (S), opposition councilor.

Considers the process complicated

According to a press release from the party, already around ten schools in the municipality already have different types of camera surveillance. However, S believes that the process of setting up cameras is complicated and slow. They want steps taken to facilitate the set up of cameras where needed.

- It feeds in reports of new damage and it interferes with safety and teaching. The latest example is the Linghemsskolan where the principal appealed to parents for attention, says Aguirre.

Investigations are done

The Chairman of the Education Board, Åsa Wennergren (L), believes that the municipality has a camera policy where investigations are conducted by the security department before cameras are set up. She doesn't really agree that the damage would have increased.

- I talked to the Director of Education earlier today and I do not feel that there was more harm.

Personal integrity

She also thinks it is important to do the investigations.

- I think you should be restrictive. Personal privacy is important. Maybe you can find other measures? But if there are major problems, it is clear that we must listen to the schools.

Wennergren thinks that if you want to change the procedure, it is the camera policy itself that needs to be changed.
