“Exactly one year ago, on August 12, 2018, a convention on the legal status of the Caspian Sea was signed. Russia intends to ratify this document in the very near future, ”RIA Novosti quoted Medvedev as saying.

The leaders of the Caspian five countries a year ago signed a convention on the legal status of the Caspian Sea in the Kazakh city of Aktau. The convention was signed by the presidents of Russia, Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan.

Work on the document has been ongoing since 1996. The Convention provides the signatories with the right to the Caspian Sea, the responsible development and use of its subsoil and other resources.

On July 30, Russian President Vladimir Putin introduced a convention on the status of the Caspian Sea for ratification to the State Duma.
