• Italy: Motion of censorship, consultation and dissolution of the Chambers: towards new elections
  • Government Crisis: The Five Star Movement loses the motion of confidence against its own Executive

The Democratic Party (PD, center-left) announced on Saturday that it will not support the Italian Prime Minister, Giuseppe Conte , and the continuity of his Government, in the motion of censure that will be voted in the country predictably during the month of August, although not yet There is a date.

"There are no political conditions for another government, at least with the PD: this is the line of the national leadership of the party approved unanimously," said the vice secretary of the PD, Paola De Micheli , on Italian public television.

De Micheli has thus cleared the doubts about the behavior of the PD in the session, which has yet to be fixed by Parliament, which is closed for vacations, after the leader of the ultra-right League, the Interior Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini , guess about this possibility.

Salvini withdrew his trust in the government alliance he had with his partner, the Five Star Movement (M5S) anti-system, and filed a motion of censure in the Senate against Conte on Friday.

The prime minister should now check if he has enough parliamentary support to continue running the country and if he should not hand over his resignation to the head of state, Sergio Mattarella .

Mattarella will then have three possibilities: try the formation of another Executive with the current composition of the Parliament, appoint a technical and provisional government, or dissolve the chambers and call elections.

"Now what matters is to know the date of the elections, that the Italians know when they can vote for a new Parliament that elects a new government that lasts five years and approves General Budgets for 2020," Salvini said.

The ultra-right-wing leader is demanding the holding of immediate elections, after the polls place him in the Headquarters of the Government in coalition with the conservative Forza Italia party and the ultra-conservative Brothers of Italy, because it just does not add enough support.

For his part, former Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi , of the PD, has declared in an act of his party that the opposition must be ready for the Italians to go to the polls and explain why the government union between the Five Stars has failed and the league.
