The quake occurred at 6:16 in the morning six kilometers west of Burträsk, in Skellefteå municipality. The quake was relatively deep, at 22 km deep

- It was a little bigger than that in Sunsvall last week. But not many people have heard from us about it. I think it is because those who live there are used, ”says Björn Lund, seismologist at Uppsala University.

"Many earthquakes there"

According to Björn Lund, burträsk is the most active site when it comes to earthquakes in Sweden. This year alone, 76 small earthquakes have been registered, but they have all been below magnitude 2. This was the strongest this year.

- There is a zone of weakness in the earth's crust that releases tension at Burträsk. That's why there are many earthquakes there, says Björn Lund.

But, according to him, this is nothing to worry about, as it is only about small quakes.

- We had a slightly larger quake in 2010, which was 3.6 magnitude. But you have to up to 4.5 magnitude for it to cause any damage, says Björn Lund.

If you felt the quake, you can register it here.
